Yashica Zoomate 140
Manufactured in China with parts from Japan, from 1998, the Yashica Zoomate 140 was a consumer grade point and shoot.
The Zoomate 140 is not a premium point and shoot. It is the camera Grandma would have taken to bingo night or a high school kid on a date. Operation is simple. controls are turn it on and point it at things. You can have a date display (98-1-1) as I discovered. The flash resets to AUTO every time you turn the camera on. You can turn it off. Self timer and a zoom.
The lens is a 38 to 140mm with speeds between f6.2 wide and f11.7 telephoto. With that slow of a lens the built in flash may save the day.
That is it.
The good news it the small size light weight make it an easy camera to justify adding to a bag or even coat pocket.
My take:
What to say. This is another consumer point and shoot. It is not a premium version that all the cool kids must have and are bidding up the price. But it is decent enough that for casual on the run snap shots you can justify taking it along.
This one looks new and had a roll of expired mostly shot film from what looked like a golf trip. For me it falls in the category of not inspiring enough to shot often but still functioning. It is not worth selling so it will go in my box of point and shoot cameras that I grab from when I just want to have something with me. Am I the only one with a box like that?
