Lomography FishEye 2
The Lomography Fisheye 2 was the follow up to the original Fisheye. The oldest refence I could find for the 2 was 2009 so my guess is that is close to the release date.
The Fisheye 2 is a sturdier version but still a toy camera. The body feels better built than the original all plastic versions. The substantial change is the addition of a removable viewfinder. The original had a problem that the lens obscures the viewfinder. The addition of a dedicated viewfinder solves that problem but adds a new problem. Because the viewfinder is on the top of the camera and the fixed focus allow for close focus you must guess on what is going to be in the frame. Just point it at stuff.
Sutter speed is about 1/100 and the aperture is a fixed f8. There is flash that runs on a single AA and has an on/off switch. Like the original version it keeps the 170° wide-angle lens.
My Take:
Because I recently shot the first Fisheye from Lomography, I knew what to expect. I found this one in a thrift shop and wanted to see if the addition of a viewfinder helped framing. The answer for me was yes and no. Yes, if the subject is in the distance. The further away the subject the less the offset between the viewfinder and the lens matters. For close subject is the opposite. Not a big a surprise just geometry.
The Fisheye 2 or the original are both just fun cameras. Not an especially useful format but fun. The kind of camera to grab when you just need a rest and want to see the world in an offbeat way.
