Introduced in 1972, the Yashica Electro 35 MC is a quality zone focus small camera. The family resemblance to the Electro 35 GT, GTN, GS, GSN is striking.

Unlike the the full size Electro 35 rangefinder line, the MC is a compact zone focus camera. The lens is a nice 40mm f2.7. This is an aperture priority camera. You set the ASA, pick the aperture and the camera picks the speed to match. Focus is pure zone with distance (feet and meter) on the lens and 3 ikons in the view finder.

The viewfinder is larger than the exposure area with has a bright frame line for the actual exposure area. This gives you visibility to the surrounding area so you can see what may be entering your shot.

There is also a self-timer that I did not use.

My Take:

The ME is a wonderful little camera. It is smaller in the hand than it looks. It has a solid quality feel. I like the lens and the simplicity of operations. It does have a few weak spots that go with the size. The viewfinder needed to be viewed from the correct angle to see the ikons and the frame line.

In use this is a nice little camera. I love the quality feel and nice lens. Operationally it is simple and works well as a casual shooter. If your a fan of the Electro 35 rangefinders, the MC is a great little companion camera.
