Canon L3
Produced from 1957 to 1958, the Canon L3 was the economy version of the Canon L line. Production only lasted on year but almost 13,000 units were produced making it one of the larger production runs for the Canon Range Finders.
The L3 was a striped down version of the L2. Like the L2 the top shutter speed is 500 and there is no self-timer. But unlike the L2, the L3 has no flash synchronization. There is a filler cap where the plug should be. It still has the lens selection on the top plate to select 50/35/RF. The 50 and 35 bring up a window and magnification to match the lens. RF gives you super magnification and is very helpful for fine focus.
My Take:
Just like shooting the L2, I was impressed by the build quality and simplicity of the L3. This is a solid camera that just fells great in the hand and is fun to shoot. Controls are simple and mine is still buttery smooth. I wish I had aged this well.
There are lots of great old Canon screw mount lens plus all the Leica screw mount lens. I think the old Canon are an equal match for the screw mount Leica and cost a lot less.
