Minox MDC
Introduced in 1992 as the progression of the Minox 35 ML line. The MDC broke rank with the plastic body and added an aluminum body coated with a titanium aluminum alloy.
The metal body results in a slight increase in size and weight but not that noticeable. It does feel a bit more like a real camera. Just has a nicer feel in the hand. Rubber inlay on the left side add some needed grip. Needed because an aluminum body means dropping the camera leaves dents. Mine has a small dent in each top front corner (there when I got it, honest).
The lens cover does not have the lock that the ML has but the body style is similar. The focus and exposure looks to be the same as the ML. Sutter speed is automatic, aperture is selected on the lens or P for automatic and focus is zone focus.
My Take:
I like the fell of the metal body, but am just as happy with a black plastic body. I was not a fan of the door latch on the ML so losing it was a plus. The area this specific camera fail was in the image quality. I intentionally shot it on P to test the full automatic. Getting out of focus shot is nothing unusual for me, but this roll seemed to produce an unusually high ratio of out of focus shots. Not sure if it was me or the lens needing to be adjusted but the result was more blur than my normal. If it was me, no surprise, if it was the camera, then it is the first Minox 35 to give me much trouble. I like the fell of the body but don't not significantly more than the plastic body. If that extra build quality is important to you, get the MDC over the ML. If your really worried about appearance over function than the MDC had a limited run of 555 24 caret gold plaited bodies.
