Yashica ME 1

Introduced in 1977 the Yashica ME 1 is a plastic, zone focus camera with an auto exposure option. Mine was made in Brazil but they were also make in Japan.

This is a what you see is what you get camera. The film advance is a wheel on the base plate. The meter seem to always be on if there is light so leaving the lens cap off would drain the battery over time. On Auto, you are prevented from taking an underexposed photo. You can over ride this by selecting an aperture other than Auto.

My Take:

This was a simple point and shoot experience. All was going well and then I had the shot of a lifetime! A big foot was standing on the side of the road waving to a UFO. I grabbed the ME 1 and got the shot. I tossed the camera on the passenger seat and started planing my book tour, when I look over and noticed that the back had popped open. It was dusk so there was not too much light. Just enough to destroy the shot that would have made me famous. That is what I get for using thrift store cameras and treating them like thrift store cameras. Other than that the images are not bad. Even with the light leak due to my neglect.

Lens: Yashica Lens 38mm 2.8

Film: KodaColor 200
